About Courtnee
Experience and Inspiration
Courtnee Sokoya, Esq. is the founder of the Contracts Counsel, LLC, a virtual law practice specializing in the review and negotiation of complex commercial agreements. Courtnee has successfully negotiated nearly half a billion dollars of commercial contracts for a Fortune 50 company before starting the Contracts Counsel. Courtnee has extensive experience with non-disclosure agreements, master service agreements (MSAs), service schedules, demand letters, and other types of agreements.
Beyond her attention to detail, Courtnee is known for her tell-it-like-it-is personality, quick wit, and whole-business approach to reviewing contracts. Courtnee prides herself on making complex ideas clear and providing businesses the information they need to make informed decisions.
Education
Courtnee earned her Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law and is licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey, and Georgia. She earned a Master of Science in Journalism from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Spelman College.
The Logo, Explained
The Contracts Counsel’s logo, a knot made of rope, is a nod to Courtnee’s childhood where she would untangle the strings of intertwined aprons fresh out of the dryer. Her parents owned a pizza restaurant and would wash and dry the employees’ aprons in their home. The result was a big knot that Courtnee was the best in the family at untangling.
Today, Courtnee does the same thing with contracts. Her expertise is unraveling, untangling, and making sense of complex situations. Under Courtnee’s leadership, the Contracts Counsel is expertly positioned to provide the best contract review services to businesses all over the United States.
Hobbies
Outside of the Contracts Counsel, Courtnee enjoys Pilates, traveling with her husband, spending time with family and friends, and chocolate chip cookies.
